Meet AP from Compass & Quill

Updated: Aug 24, 2020

I know what you’re thinking. ANOTHER travel blogger? WHY DOES THE WORLD NEED MORE!?⠀ ⠀ Well, first off, let me introduce myself and then I’ll get to that pesky “why.” My name is Ashley Perez, but you’re welcome to call me AP. I’m a writer based in Charleston, SC (for now, at least) and I believe there can never be to many travel accounts.⠀ ⠀ Ok...that’s a lie. I’ve definitely seen accounts that are straight up crap or spam. I’ll try not to be one of them. Then again, it’s all subjective so there’s a chance you might think it’s crap anyway. What I like, you might hate. And that’s finnnneeee. All you need to know is that I aim to be honest in what I share.⠀ ⠀ Anyhoot, I’ve followed travel bloggers for years and had always aspired to be one. They’ve definitely given me a case of the FOMOs on more than one occasion. But my full time career and my focus on my books (check me out @sofiasawyerwriter if you like romance/women’s fiction featuring strong, independent women) left me with limited time. Yet, as I started organizing my photos (thanks to the pandemic making me run out of excuses to avoid doing it), I realized I didn’t want to hold off any longer.⠀ ⠀ Being bound to my little corner of the world these last few months made me recognize the importance of travel in my life. It’s a HUGE part of my identity and gives me perspective unlike anything else. And like most of people, I took for granted how easy it was to pop on a plane or jump in the car and explore. I don’t want to take it for granted again.⠀ ⠀ So, why? Why jump into the oversaturated digital world of travel photographers and bloggers? Why put ANOTHER thing on my plate when I’m already overloaded? Why add another social media channel to my rotation when I’ve sworn up and down to be done with it already (still working on and failing at that whole “digital minimalism” thing).⠀ ⠀ Why?⠀ ⠀ Because I’ve got a story to tell.⠀ ⠀ Sure. I’ll gladly share travel tips, recommendations, and quirky #takemeback posts. However, my TRUE goal is to share the stories behind the photos. To bring these experiences to life those one line zingers can’t.

(And since I’m multifaceted and want to keep you on your toes, posts will be a mix of inspiration, fun, deep thoughts, and the feels. Of course, I’ll throw some sarcasm in the mix because where’s the joy in life if my dry humor can’t make people question whether I’m seriously a jerk or not?)

Through this, I want to find my voice and put it to good use. I aim to foster REAL connections and build relationships. And to do that, it means getting REALLY real.

With each post, I want to inspire people to travel and appreciate how being somewhere else helps you discover more about yourself and your place in the world. Not to just get the best snaps for the ‘gram, but to really understand the significance of each moment.

Because if you’re anything like me, you’re probably moving at breakneck speed, and living in the moment is a rare thing.

Let these travel stories help you lean in to your experiences. If you’re traveling, you’re lucky. What you’ll get from it can change you. So why don’t we discover this together? Hm?

Let's explore. Follow me on Instagram to get a behind-the-scenes look at all my adventures!
